When I paint, I slow down. Close observation is essential, but thought, experience, and emotion all shape each painting. Hours slip by as I sit, look, and focus. Light, color, and shadow capture my attention, drawing me fully into the moment. The outside world fades, and my mind is absorbed by the scene before me and by the interplay of water and pigment as the painting emerges.
Watercolor has a reputation for having a mind of its own, or “painting itself”, with its fluid, unpredictable nature. The artist learns to watch what the paint is doing, guiding it gently while allowing its natural character to shine through. My hope is that my watercolors convey the same joy and wonder I find in the visual world.
